Signs & Symptoms

What's actually causing the leak

Common causes

Sealant failure at seams, vent surrounds, and the front and rear cap edges is the most common cause. Sealant shrinks, cracks, and separates under UV and temperature cycling, and it fails fastest around roof penetrations. Membrane tears from impact or road debris, soft spots from water that has reached the decking, and delamination at the cap-to-roof joint round out the most common problems. In Texas, heat and UV exposure accelerate sealant failure significantly compared to milder climates.

The right way to repair it

It depends on what failed. Cracked sealant at seams and vents is resealed. A torn or punctured membrane is patched or partly replaced. Water that has reached the decking means the damaged section comes out and is rebuilt. The right first step is always an inspection that shows how far the water travelled. Repairing the surface over wet decking fails within a season and turns a manageable repair into a structural job.

Repair, Recoat, or Replace

Three outcomes, one inspection to tell you which

Lowest cost

Reseal

Resealing is appropriate for sealant-only failures with no membrane or decking damage.

Substrate must be dry

Recoat

A liquid roof coating over a sound membrane is the lower-cost option where the substrate is dry and intact — it is not a fix for a soft roof.

When water reached the deck

Replace

Membrane replacement is needed when the membrane is torn, punctured, or has separated from the deck. Decking replacement follows when the wood has saturated or rotted beyond drying.

What It Costs, And Why It Failed

An inspection tells you which category you're in

Full replacement is the most expensive option and the range is wide — it depends on roof length, membrane type, and how much decking underneath needs rebuilding. Resealing costs a fraction of that. The earlier the repair, the lower the cost.

Class A RV Repairs inspects first and gives you a written estimate that shows exactly which category your roof falls into before any work begins. No figures are published here without client confirmation.

UV & temperature cycling

Sealant shrinks, cracks, and separates from edges under UV and temperature swings, and it fails earliest around roof penetrations — vents, skylights, antennas, and the front and rear caps.

Incompatible product

Some sealants degrade EPDM and TPO membranes rather than bonding to them. Using the right sealant for the membrane type is not optional.

About Class A RV Repairs

Kerrville, TX — 2 months ago

Hail damage across the entire roof and upper panels of our Class A. They photo-documented everything, handled all the insurance paperwork, and did the body work in-house. The color match on the replaced sections is indistinguishable from the original. Best body shop experience we've had for an RV, period.

Boerne, TX — 3 months ago

Brought our travel trailer in for rust on the lower panel and a cracked fiberglass section near the door. They found hidden moisture under the rust — addressed that first, then did the panel repair and color-match. Written estimate matched the final bill exactly. Zero surprises, excellent work.

Bandera, TX — 1 month ago

Side panel delamination and some dents from a tree branch impact. They repaired the delamination properly — addressed the moisture underneath first — and fixed the dents with a color-matched finish. Called upfront about what was in scope and what wasn't. That kind of honesty is rare and worth the drive to Pipe Creek.

Common Questions

RV Roof Repair FAQ

It depends on what failed. Cracked sealant at seams and vents is resealed, a torn or punctured membrane is patched or partly replaced, and water that has reached the decking means the damaged section comes out and is rebuilt. The right first step is always an inspection that shows how far the water travelled. Repairing the surface over wet decking fails within a season.
Full replacement is the most expensive roof job there is, and the range is wide because it depends on roof length, membrane type, and how much decking underneath has to be rebuilt. Resealing costs a fraction of it. Class A RV Repairs inspects first and gives you a written estimate so you can see which of the two you are actually facing.
The cheapest genuine saving is catching the problem early. A resealed seam costs far less than the membrane and decking work that follows a season of ignored leaking. Beyond that, a liquid roof coating over a sound membrane is the lower-cost option, but it is only appropriate where the substrate is dry and intact. It is not a fix for a soft roof.
Sealant shrinks, cracks, and separates from edges under UV and temperature swings, and it fails earliest around roof penetrations. The other common problem is incompatible product: some sealants degrade EPDM and TPO membranes rather than bonding to them.
Roof work is done in-shop. Membrane adhesives and sealants need controlled conditions and proper cure time to bond correctly, and decking repairs need the RV under cover. A roadside patch on a damaged roof rarely holds through a Texas summer. Call ahead and we will schedule you in.
